Overview

Embrace Pet Insurance offers illness protection and accident coverage. They also offer a Wellness Rewards program to policyholders to help cover the cost of routine veterinary care, grooming, and even training costs. The company offers a “Healthy Pet Deductible™” — the first and only of its kind in the industry that offers a diminishing deductible feature. Bonus for animal lovers: for every policy sold, Embrace donates $2 to an animal charity.

Embrace offers flexibility in the coverage it offers. The cost of each policy is unique to your pet  — age, breed, health conditions, and location are all a factor.

You can choose between the following for your coverage plan:

  • Annual maximum coverage: $5,000, $8,000, $10,000, $15,000, or $30,000 (unlimited is available via phone)

  • Annual deductible: $200, $300, $500, $750, or $1,000

  • Reimbursement for veterinary expenses: 70%, 80%, or 90%

Embrace also offers an optional Wellness Rewards program policyholders can opt in to, which covers 100 percent of your pet’s routine care costs. You can select the amount of coverage you want for this program, too (anywhere from $250-$650/year). This coverage includes standard care such as spay/neutering, wellness exams, vaccinations, microchip, and routine bloodwork.

Once you’ve applied, coverage begins 48 hours after approval and premium payment for accidents and injuries. Otherwise, there is a 14-day waiting period for illness claims.

Unfortunately, no pre-existing conditions are covered.

Pros:

  • No lifetime limit in coverage

  • Optional Wellness Rewards

  • A+ rating from A.M. Best and the Better Business Bureau

  • Claims are paid quickly: within 5-15 days

  • Discount provided for homes with multiple pets who require coverage

Cons

  • $25 enrollment fee

  • $1/monthly fee for all transactions

  • 2-day waiting period for coverage for accidents and 14-day waiting period for illness

  • Coverage for pets 14 years old and under for accident and illness

  • Travel (outside of the U.S.) coverage is not available

Embrace has a good reputation and outstanding customer support, which makes it an excellent choice for pet insurance coverage. It’s waiting periods for coverage are more restrictive than some competitors, but monthly premium flexibility and coverage options make this an excellent choice when shopping for pet insurance.
