Overview

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance® provides your standard fare of pet insurance coverage options. Though there isn’t much that makes ASPCA stand out from competitors, they have excellent customer service reviews. And with flexible plans and coverage, you are likely to find the right fit for what you and your pet need for insurance.

PolicyScout Review

ASPCA offers two coverage plans, including:

Complete Coverage: the most comprehensive option, this includes coverage for ASPCA exam fees, diagnostics and treatments for accidents, illness, hereditary and congenital conditions, and behavioral issues (training, anxiety, etc.). The plan is so comprehensive that it even covers acupuncture and stem cell therapy for your pet! That said, no pre-existing conditions are covered by any ASPCA plan if your pet has it at the time of application. Preventative care is not included under this plan, but you can add a preventative care package if you are interested.

Accidents-Only Coverage: less comprehensive but more affordable, this is an accidents-only plan that covers only immediate, life-threatening accidents and emergencies your pet experiences. Emergencies include bites, cuts, ingestion of toxins or foreign substances, screening, and treatment costs for anything considered an emergency by your veterinarian.

Both complete coverage and accident-only plans give you the freedom to choose how much coverage you want — anywhere from 70 to 90 percent reimbursement. You can also choose your deductible: either $500, $250, or $100/year.

Coverage limits are also flexible, with plans offering as low as $5,000 of coverage up to unlimited. Each of these factors influences how much you pay in your monthly (or annual) premium.

Pros:

  • Wellness coverage is offered

  • A rating from A.M. Best and an A+ from Better Business Bureau

  • Offers 30-day money-back guarantee

  • Pet is covered even when traveling within the U.S. and some US territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Canada)

  • No age limit for coverage

  • Available in all 50 states

  • Unlimited coverage options for cats and dogs

Cons:

  • $2 transaction fee unless you pay your premiums on an annual basis

  • 14-day wait period for illness and accidents

  • Cannot change your plan once it is selected until the next 12-month period begins

  • Only two plans available

  • Lower reimbursements than some competitors

  • Preventative care costs extra

ASPCA offers a couple of different pet insurance plans and is available only for cat and dog owners. Available in all 50 states, ASPCA has a simple claims process and stellar customer reviews, making this an excellent choice for pet insurance.
