Manhattan Life Medicare Review

Overview

Founded in 1850, Manhattan Life made its name by becoming the first life insurance company to issue insurance to a woman, and the first to issue a group life policy. With its progressive roots, Manhattan Life continues to be a leader in the insurance industry. Today, Manhattan Life is part of the Manhattan Life group, which has several subsidiaries. Policies are sold across the country through trained agents.

Despite the company name, its headquarters is in Houston, Texas. If it’s stability you’re after, this company has it. They’ve been in business for nearly 170 years. Manhattan Life Medicare is part of the parent company of Western United Life Assurance and Family Life Insurance. One of the best things about Manhattan Life is that, in addition to Medicare supplementation, they also offer dental, vision, and hearing plans for seniors.

Manhattan Life offers five of the Medicare supplement plans that includes Plans A, C, F, G, and N. Note: Although the Manhattan Life website does not clearly state they offer plan M, they do have a description of this plan on their Medicare Supplement webpage along with other descriptions of the plans they offer.

For better or worse, Medicare decides which claims they will pay and which they will deny. Fortunately, Manhattan Life has a reputation for always paying its share — without an insurance fight — once Medicare approves a claim. Manhattan Life may also help you appeal any claims Medicare denies, giving you some much-needed peace of mind.

Other Important Topics to Note

Manhattan Life has a great reputation as a long, storied, and stable history in the insurance industry. However, there are some downsides to consider:

  • One-time $25 policy fee, making your initial premium $25 extra

  • Overall customer satisfaction rating is B+ — this is good but lower than some larger competitors

  • Prior to 2018, they often denied folks with certain pre-existing conditions; this is gradually changing
