This health insurance business has licensed agents nationwide for you to speak to if you want to sign up for a VelaPoint health insurance plan.

It doesn’t cost anything to consult with one of VelaPoint’s agents, and they are there to help you find the best plan for your budget.

VelaPoint offers a variety of health insurance products to thousands of members nationwide, including Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans.

They also offer prescription drug plans (PDPs). Additionally, VelaPoint also provides other types of insurance, such as pet insurance and life insurance.

To understand VelaPoint’s health insurance offering, it’s a good idea to know what their plans cover at a glance.

  • Medicare: This is medical cost coverage that is provided by the U.S. government. When you get Medicare through an insurance company like VelaPoint, you get extra coverage and health benefits on top of what Original Medicare provides.

  • Medicare Advantage: This is an insurance plan for people who are already on the government Medicare program, but who need or want more benefits and coverage.

  • Prescription Drug Plans: These are health insurance plans that cover drugs that are prescribed to you by a doctor. Sometimes, federal Medicare won’t pay for these medications.

  • Medicare Supplement Insurance: Also known as Medigap insurance, it helps to pay some of the health care costs that Original Medicare doesn't cover. Such as

    • Co-payments.

    • Coinsurance.

    • Deductibles.

VelaPoint also offers:

  • Individual and family health insurance plans, starting from $95.75 per month.

  • Insurance programs for small groups of 10 employees or fewer.

  • Group health insurance.

  • Short-term health insurance.

  • Accident, critical illness, and supplemental insurance.

The insurance provider says their number one focus is to take care of their clients and that this is exactly what has helped them grow from a team of four people to a company with over 200 employees.

The Benefits of Medicare Advantage Plans

As mentioned earlier, VelaPoint offers Medicare Advantage Plans. Medicare Advantage Plans give you coverage for many of the things that the government’s Originall Medicare doesn’t cover.

If you are on a Medicare Advantage Plan, you will still get all the benefits of the Original Medicare.

Some Medicare Advantage Plans include benefits like fitness programs, and vision, hearing, and dental services.

Other benefits that many Medicare Advantage Plans offer, include transportation to doctors’ visits and discounts on over-the-counter drugs.

What are Over-the-counter drugs?

Over-the-counter drugs are medications that you can buy at a pharmacy without a prescription from a doctor. These drugs can include things like vitamin supplements and mild pain medication.

With some insurance companies, your Medicare Advantage Plan can be customized to suit your specific needs, like if you have a certain illness.

Most insurance providers who offer Medicare will want you to visit the health care providers they cover. These are called in-network providers.

If you visit a doctor that falls outside of their network, it’s possible that your insurance company won’t pay for the consultation.

Also, many Medicare Advantage Plans come with an out-of-pocket limit.

What Is An Out-Of-Pocket Limit?

Out-of-pocket refers to the amount of money you would need to pay out of your own pocket for medical costs before your Medicare Advantage Plan starts to pay.  Each year, there is a certain limit to how much of your own money you will spend, this is an out-of-pocket limit. Once you’ve reached your yearly out-of-pocket limit, you won’t pay for any of your health care services, as long as they are covered by the Medicare Advantage Plan.

What Is A Medicare Supplement or Medigap Plan?

In addition to their Medicare Advantage Plans, VelaPoint insurance also offers Medicare Supplement Plans, also known as Medigap insurance.

This type of health insurance helps to fill any gaps that there may be in Original Medicare’s coverage.

For example, if the Medicare provided by the government doesn’t cover a certain illness or medication, your Medigap or Supplement Plan may pay for it.

Original Medicare will pay its share of your medical expenses, and then your Medigap insurance company, like VelaPoint, will pay the remainder of the cost, as long as you have visited an in-network doctor.

Medigap insurance plans are different from Medicare Advantage Plans. Medicare Advantage Plans are how you get more Medicare benefits. A Medigap plan only supplements your Original Medicare benefits.

To get a Medigap plan, you would need to pay VelaPoint a monthly fee — also called a monthly premium.

A Medigap insurance plan only covers one person. If your spouse or anyone else in your family also wants Medigap insurance, they will need to have a separate plan.

Medigap doesn’t cover:

  • Long-term care, like if you are in a nursing home.

  • Vision and dental services.

  • Hearing ads.

  • Glasses.

  • Private nursing services at your home.

What Is a Prescription Drug Plan?

A prescription drug plan (PDP) is a standalone plan that you can buy through VelaPoint. A standalone plan means you don’t need to have any other kind of health insurance to sign up for this plan. Also, this standalone plan won’t pay for any medical costs except your medication.

A PDP gives you coverage for prescription drugs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover. Prescription drugs are any medications that your doctor tells you to take.
